Gideon Long was most likely born in Berks Co. PA and moved to Union Co. with his family when he was one year old. Somewhere between 1860 and 1870, he, his wife Elizabeth, and some of their children moved to Prairie Rhonde Township, Kalamazoo County Michigan where he owned land and was a farmer.
Two of his sons owned a store in Schoolcraft Michigan. They were in the habit of extending credit to the poor farmers in the area.
